New Spaces Handed Over at the Townsend Building
Contemporary, Flexible Workspaces in a Listed Setting
We're delighted to see works now complete at the Townsend Building in Oxford’s Science Area!
Delivered for the University of Oxford, the project involved the refurbishment and conversion of two floors within the Grade II listed building to create contemporary, flexible workspace for new research groups within the Department of Physics.
OA worked on the scheme from RIBA Stage 4 onwards, transforming former laser laboratories and cellular offices into open, collaborative environments, supported by meeting rooms, breakout spaces and dedicated areas for focused work. Throughout the space, later interventions have been carefully removed to reveal original architectural features, with new insertions designed as lightweight, independent structures that sit comfortably within the historic fabric.
