As part of a wider track and signalling improvement project OA were engaged by the design and build contractor BAM Construction to provide all architectural design services for the rebuilding of Cardiff Queen Street Station. The project had already reached Network Rail Form A approval at the point that OA were engaged. Our services involved the provision of Form B design submissions, construction status information, site inspections and responding to design change requests as the building was being constructed. We undertook consultation with Network Rail and the Train Operating Company in order to define the brief in the form of comprehensive room data sheets.

The new building accommodates a new ticket office and associated staff facilities, a new ticket hall, retail unit, gate line and lift and stairs up to the second floor access to the platforms. The ground floor plan had to co-ordinated with the entrance to an existing subway.

The project delivers the replacement of a non-descript single storey brick structure with a dynamic, glass and metal two storey landmark building.
