Purpose Built Seclusion Environment Wellesley Seclusion

About

Set within a specialist secure mental healthcare facility, the Wellesley Seclusion project involved the design and delivery of a highly bespoke therapeutic environment tailored to support patient safety, de-escalation and recovery. Developed in close collaboration with clinical stakeholders, the scheme responds to the complex operational and safeguarding requirements associated with high-dependency mental health settings.

The project centres on the creation of purpose-designed seclusion accommodation, carefully planned to balance robust safety measures with a calm, low-stimulation environment. Spatial layout, material selection and detailing were all considered to support clinical observation while maintaining patient dignity and privacy, with integrated anti-ligature features and secure interfaces throughout.

Materially, the design adopts a durable yet restrained palette, combining impact-resistant finishes with carefully controlled lighting and acoustic strategies to create a more therapeutic setting. Every element has been considered to meet the rigorous demands of a secure healthcare environment while contributing to improved patient experience and staff efficiency.

The result is a carefully resolved intervention that delivers a safe, compliant and future-ready clinical space, supporting both immediate care needs and long-term operational resilience within a complex healthcare setting.
