Masterplan Somerton Estate

Oxford Architects were instructed by Newport City Homes to undertake a full Options Appraisal for the Somerton Estate, Newport.

The scope of the Appraisal focused on three Options; Refurbishment of the existing properties, a ‘hybrid’ approach based on new build regeneration sites and refurbishment, and a full new Masterplan.

Our work involved developing a number of options for various sites within the Estate which ranged from smaller sites of 10 homes, up to sites with 100+ homes.

A full new masterplan for Somerton was also developed which focused on wholesale redevelopment, with an emphasis on placemaking, places to meet/play, and integrated green infrastructure.

OA continue to work with Newport City Homes and the residents of Somerton as the project moves towards a planning application in 2023.
