Conceived as a museum to provide contemporary audiences with an insight into how conflict has shaped the people of Oxfordshire, the Soldiers of Oxfordshire Museum combines a robust architectural expression with flexible, future-focused exhibition spaces. Set within a historic garden, the contemporary building responds sensitively to its surroundings while creating a distinctive new cultural destination.

Behind a glass-walled cloister overlooking the gardens lies a series of adaptable exhibition galleries, allowing the museum to evolve alongside its collections and changing exhibition requirements. The archive is intentionally visible as part of the visitor experience, offering an insight into the museum's work behind the scenes, while a passage gallery carefully separates the new building from the adjoining Grade II listed wall.

The building's exposed concrete structure reflects the military origins of the project, complementing its robust architectural language while providing the durability and environmental control required to achieve National Indemnity Standards. Continuous circulation through the cloister and passage gallery creates multiple routes through the museum, framing views both into the exhibition spaces and back towards the historic gardens.

Delivered as a joint venture development, the completed museum provides a flexible and engaging educational facility, capable of accommodating changing exhibitions while preserving and interpreting Oxfordshire's military heritage for future generations.
