On Site at St Catherine’s: RAAC Replacement Underway
Protecting a Modernist Landmark
Yesterday, the wider OA team had the opportunity to visit St Catherine's College, University of Oxford, to see the progress on the ongoing roof remediation project.
The works tackle the presence of Reinforced Autoclaved Aerated Concrete (RAAC) across several of the College’s Grade I listed Arne Jacobsen buildings - including the Dining Hall, Kitchen, JCR, SCR, Library, and Bernard Sunley Building.
With over 8,000m² of roof structures and more than 5,000 RAAC panels being replaced, this is a complex and fascinating challenge. It was great to see first-hand how the project is taking shape and to appreciate the scale of the effort involved in safeguarding this modernist landmark for generations to come.
