At the Centre of Village Life Bampton Community Centre

The Bampton Community Centre project re-invigorated an existing Grade II listed former village school, providing new accommodation that allows the building to continue to function at the heart of village life.

All additions, repairs and renewals were carried out sympathetically, using materials and detailing that reflect the character of the original building. A substantial extension, formed as two new additions, uses a traditional palette of natural stone, lime render and slate. While carefully positioned in relation to the listed building, the extensions are strong architectural statements in their own right, helping to reinforce the street presence that had previously been lost.

Principal rooms within the original building were largely left unaltered, with period features retained and protected. Where new walls and insertions were required, lightweight studwork was used to minimise intervention and preserve the existing historic fabric.
