Former Library Turned Fitness Gym Luxe Fitness Gym

The former Old Library in Bedminster has been sensitively refurbished and converted into a 715m² boutique fitness gym, changing its use from D1 to D2 while securing a sustainable new future for this Grade II listed building within the Bedminster Conservation Area. The project demonstrates how a vacant heritage asset can be successfully adapted to meet modern needs, bringing the building back into active public use and contributing to the ongoing regeneration of the local area.

The building's historic exterior has been carefully preserved and repaired, while contemporary interventions have been introduced to improve performance and enhance the user experience. New full-height glazing activates the street frontage and creates a more welcoming entrance, rooftop photovoltaic panels reduce operational energy demand, and new steel mezzanine floors maximise the use of the building's impressive double-height spaces.

Internally, the design combines a contemporary 'boutique' aesthetic with the celebration of the building's historic character. Original timber flooring has been retained and restored, the vaulted ceilings have been highlighted through discreet lighting, and a carefully selected palette of timber, dark metal and brass finishes creates a distinctive fitness environment that respects the building's architectural heritage while supporting its new purpose.
