OA Architecture shortlisted at the Insider South West Property Awards
Recognition across the South West
We’re delighted to have been shortlisted across four categories at this year’s Insider South West Property Awards, recognising both our projects and the work of the practice across the region.
Our work at 36 Boutport Street and the OMX Innovation Hub has been shortlisted for Fit-Out / Refurbishment of the Year, while the wider Barnstaple Market Quarter Regeneration is in the running for Place-making Project of the Year. We’re also especially pleased to see OA Architecture shortlisted for Architectural Practice of the Year.
OMX Innovation Hub
Completed in April 2026, the OMX Innovation Hub saw the transformation of an existing industrial unit in Bristol into a 30,000 sq ft science incubator for Science Creates.
The £7m retrofit provides high-quality R&D laboratories alongside offices, event and breakout spaces, creating a flexible and collaborative environment for emerging science and technology businesses. The existing structure was retained and upgraded, with new glazing, cladding, rooflights and PV panels improving both the building’s identity and environmental performance.
36 Boutport Street
At 36 Boutport Street, extensive conservation works have restored a Grade II Listed Building that had suffered from years of neglect, structural deterioration and severe dry rot.
The refurbishment focused on retaining and repairing the building’s historic fabric wherever possible, including original architectural features and traditional lath and plaster finishes, while sensitively adapting the building to provide flexible office, workshop and community spaces. A new lift improves accessibility throughout, while a specially designed roof incorporates habitat provision for bats, bringing together heritage conservation, contemporary use and biodiversity within the restored building.
Barnstaple Market Quarter Regeneration
Our third project shortlisting recognises the wider transformation of Barnstaple’s Market Quarter, bringing together our work at Boutport Street with the regeneration of the historic Pannier Market, Guildhall and surrounding public realm.
At its heart, the project seeks to strengthen connections across the town centre while bringing new activity to important historic buildings and spaces. The Grade II Listed Pannier Market and Grade II* Listed Guildhall have been carefully restored and adapted, alongside improvements to Butchers Row and Cross Street, helping create a more accessible, flexible and welcoming destination for traders, events and the wider community.
